introduction to differentiation

What is differentiation? Definition of a derivative.

Differentiation is the process of finding the derivative f'(x) of a function f.  It is a part of maths called Calculus

The derivative is the gradient of the tangent of the graph of f at the point x.

Differentiation answers

Knowing about directed numbers.

Directed Numbers

math tutorials > directed numbers

Directed numbers are just numbers with a positive or negative sign in front of them!

Directed numbers are signed numbers i.e. numbers with a positive or plus sign (+) in front of them or a negative or minus sign (-) in front of them  e.g.  +6, -2, +7 etc.  All these whole numbers (and 0) grouped together are called integers.

These numbers can be represented on a number line.

Number line

positive number signifies a movement to the right.
negative number signifies a movement to the left on the number line.

A number without a sign is positive.

Adding and Subtracting.

 e.g.  +2 + -3 + 2

Adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers

+2 + -3 + 2 = +1

Note:  A double negative changes to a single positive e.g.  +3 – -3 = +3 +3 = +6

A  negative sign with a positive sign changes to a single negative
e.g.  3 + -4 = 3 – 4 = -1
3 + -4 = 3 – 4 = -1

Multiplying and Dividing.

The following rules apply: + x + = +,  e.g +6 x +6 = +36, + x – = –  e.g +6 x -6 = -36, – x + = -, e.g -6 x +6 = -36, – x – = +, e.g -6 x -6 = +36

The same rules apply for division

Math problems for you to try.

Note:  Remember the correct order of operations.

  1. 8 – 10
  2. 5 – (-3)
  3. 9 – (6 – 9)
  4. -3 x -4
  5. -11 – (3 + 4)
  6. 3 x (-2)²

Solutions:  (1)  -2    (2)  +8    (3)  +12   ( 4)  +12   ( 5)  -18    (6)  +12

Order of Operations Tutorial

math tutorials > order of operations

In a math calculation the order you do things is important!

null

In a mathematical calculation the order of operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, brackets and exponents) is important. You can’t just do the sum in the order is is shown e.g. 4 x 6 + 8 and expect to get the right answer.

Different answers can be obtained if the operations are calculated in different orders. Try that with this example … 6 x 5 – 4 / 3 + 7. You should be able to get a number of different answers despending on the order you do the adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

Therefore there is an accepted order for doing calculations used throughout the world.  Many calculators are programmed to use this order, but since this is not always the case the following mnemonic will help you remember.

B

 Brackets

E

 Exponents

D

 Division

M

 Multiplication

A

 Addition

S

 Subtraction

For example

3 x 2 – 16 /4 Division First= 3 x 2 – 4 Then Multiplication= 6 – 4 Subtration Last= 2     5 + 3(15 – 3 x 2) Brackets First, Multiplication First= 5 + 3(15 – 6) Now Brackets= 5 + 3 x 9 Then Multiplication= 5 + 18 Addition Last= 32

Math problems for you to try.

1)  (3 + 8) x 2      2)  8 x 5 – 3 x 4      3)  18 / (6 + 3)

Solutions:  1)  22    2)  28    3)  2

Edo police arrest 2 for selling 3 siblings for N500,000
25th April 2019

Tony Osauzo, Benin

Two men, Kenneth Ofeke and Stephen Obi, who sold three siblings for N500,000 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command.

Police gave names of the siblings, two of who are twins, as Wisdom, Kenneth and Sunny, even as it is yet to be determined whether they are still alive.

The children were said to have been taken from Edo State and sold to a woman in Port Harcourt who later resold them to other persons in Lagos State.

Speaking to journalists, Kenneth, 26, claimed that he led his former girlfriend to sell the children because they were ill and he could not cater for them, adding that he discussed sales of the children with their mother.

“I hail from Ebonyi State. We are from the same state. I have not paid her bride price. She gave birth to twins. She was not okay after delivery. The children were not well. My parents are not alive so I sought to look for help. I called one aunty in Port Harcourt.

“We took the children to Port Harcourt. The aunty made some inquiry. I gave her the children to take care of and she gave me N500,000.

“We didn’t discuss price. She just gave me the money. I am a Welder. There is no help and the children are not well. Their mother was my girlfriend. She had Wisdom for a man before I met her. She took in after we departed but said the man she had the twins for does not care for her,” Kenneth narrated.

On his part, Stephen, 48, denied selling any child and said he only provided his Goodness and Mercy Orphanage Home for the children to be adopted and not sold, saying that he collected N50,000 as logistics per child.

“I have not sold any child. I helped to adopt for parents looking for children. I collect N50,000 registration fee for logistics. It was the police that told me here that Kenneth is not the father of the children. I told the woman to demonstrate she is the mother and she breastfed the children. They said they wanted a home that can take care of the children.

“We followed due process and give them affidavit and consent agreement. The people that adopted the children reside in Lagos State,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, the police have described Kenneth as a serial child trafficker, who had earlier sold a baby for N1m in Port Harcourt.

The state Commissioner of Police, Damallam Abubakar, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Easter: 13 Dies As Church Collapse In South Africa
By AGENCY REPORT – 8 hours ago

At least 13 people have died and many were injured when a wall collapsed in South Africa at the start of an Easter service at a Pentecostal church.

Emergency services said that 29 people were rushed to hospital after the collapse in the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Local officials have blamed the tragedy on heavy rainfall in the area around eMpangeni on Thursday night.

Local reports said some people had been sleeping when the brick wall fell.

The wall at the front of the Pentecostal Holiness Church collapsed at the start of what had been planned as a weekend-long service to commemorate the Christian festival of Easter.

On Friday, a special prayer service was held in a large tent in front of the church, reports the eNCA TV station.

President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the church last year and some of the congregants reportedly asked for his support to build a new church.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant is a member of the church and was planning to attend the Good Friday service there.

She has arrived at the scene and said: “Even at this difficult time, we still need to trust in God.”

Local official Lennox Mabaso told SABC news that the church “a solid structure”.

“It is an act of nature. It is an act of God. Not even a president could have been able to save this particular situation,” he said.

“It was a heavy storm that affected this area.”

NGOs Call For Peaceful Coexistence, Unity Among Nigerians
By ORJIME MOSES – 1 hour ago

The Gladdened Point Foundation in collaboration with the Universal Peace Federation has called for peace and harmony among various ethnics and religious group in the country.

The group social director of media, Aliyu Musa said this during the 2019 special ambassadors for peace workshop and international induction of United Nations ambassador for peace members. Themed: national peaceful coexistence; using “The Cross” and “The crescent” as great assets held in Abuja.

Aliyu said that there are two major things to look at in our lives that is when you are talk about Cross it means you are talking about Christianity just like when you talk about Crescent you are talking about Islam, these two famous things has remained a unifying factor for all religious not only in Nigeria but all over the world and the both religious preaches peace and their teaching is peace.

According to him, we have religious but we do not know how to practice it. We claimed to be Muslims and Christians but we are not practicing what the real religious teaches.

“We politicised religious, criticism among other things has led our daily existence and destruction of lives and properties has become the only cure for us.

“So I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace, stand for the truth, do the right thing at the right time because you can not say what you can not do.

You know words are always matched with actions, demonstrate the reality of peace and at the same time say the truth at anywhere you find yourself.

“We must be alive in our consciousness in all areas of our personal, social, political, family and religious lives,” he said.

He further said that when we oppress others or take for ourselves and family what is meant for all, it is called greed and selfishness.

“We have few individuals who are gaining so much from the impunity in the land. We cannot move forward as a nation unless we learn to love and accommodate one another,’’ he added.

He urged journalists to use their medium as tool to promote peace in the country.

Post : Immigration Authorities: Marijuana Involvement Can Lead to Denial of U.S. Citizenship

Immigration authorities on Friday said that anyone with any involvement with marijuana, regardless of whether it’s legal in the state where they live, can be denied citizenship because the drug is still illegal under federal law.

The announcement comes weeks after officials in Colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal, began warning residents ( https://www.apnews.com/82b3dabdd0bf48d1a039ab1e4a73bf4f ) that working for a dispensary or manufacturing operation could jeopardize their citizenship bid — even if those jobs are state-sanctioned.

The updated guidance from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services states that people who use marijuana or are involved with it in any way fail to have “good moral character,” a prerequisite for people who have legal permanent residence to gain American citizenship.

About two-thirds of states allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and 10 allow recreational use. Washington, D.C., also allows recreational use.

“U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is required to adjudicate cases based on federal law,” spokeswoman Jessica Collins said in a statement. “Individuals who commit federal controlled substance violations face potential immigration consequences under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which applies to all foreign nationals regardless of the state or jurisdiction in which they reside.”

In Colorado, immigration attorneys say at least two green-card holders were denied citizenship because they worked or had worked in marijuana-related jobs. There are probably more, they say.

Immigrants who apply for citizenship must first fill out a 20-page form known as the “N-400.” It asks about prior work, family and criminal history, but it doesn’t specifically ask if a person has used or worked with marijuana.

Julia Gelatt, a senior policy analyst for the Migration Policy Institute, said it’s not likely that most people will disclose information about pot use. But she said the new policy could make some people nervous about applying.

“Whether or not it has a real impact is whether adjudicators decide to ask about it,” Gelatt said.

Snakes have been found in Liberian President George Weah’s office, forcing him to work from his private residence, the BBC has learned.

Press secretary Smith Toby told the BBC that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, site of the official office.

All staff has been told to stay away until 22 April.

“It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building,” Mr Toby said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation,” he said.

when they appeared near the building’s reception.

“The snakes were never killed,” Mr. Toby said. “There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back.”

Police and presidential security were seen guarding Mr. Weah’s residence in the capital Monrovia. A fleet of vehicles including escorts jeeps were parked outside.

Mr. Toby said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started to fumigate on Friday.

“That building’s been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high,” he said.

The president is definitely returning to his official office on Monday after the fumigation whether or not the snakes are found and killed, Mr. Toby said. (BBC)

The general oversea of the citadel of mercy international church worldwide, prophet Pascal Goodnews has urged Christians to use the period of Easter to reflect on the teachings of Jesus Christ and endeavor to emulate Christ in their daily lives.

He said just as Jesus Christ conquered death on the cross of Calvary, Christians must also work towards overcoming tribulations.

Pascals, however, urged Christians to be steadfast and emerge victorious during pressing circumstances; same way as Jesus when he rose from the dead.

“Let us enforce victory over every situation that is going on in our country as we celebrate the risen Christ,” he said.

He urged all Christians to be bold and perceive every trying situation as a “horse” which could be divinely used in obtaining victory.

Pascal urged Christians to engage in the proclamation of the gospel of Christ on earth, and herald his resurrection.

The general oversea added that. Christians to continue to pray so as to emerge victorious in trying times

He concluded by calling on Christians to continually pray for the nation’s leaders and for the unity, peace, progress, and development of Nigeria.

After years of painstaking conservation, Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit will be shown this summer at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the historic moon mission.

It will go on display July 16, exactly 50 years after the launch of the Saturn V rocket that carried astronauts Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins on the first manned lunar landing.

Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon July 20, 1969 ( https://airandspace.si.edu/apollo50 ) .

His spacesuit has not been on public view for 13 years.

The museum raised $719,779 in a 2015 Kickstarter campaign ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smithsonian/reboot-the-suit-bring-back-neil-armstrongs-spacesu ) to conserve it and other artifacts from the space program.

They built a state-of-the-art display case and mannequin to protect the fragile suit.

The Smithsonian’s “Destination Moon” permanent gallery ( https://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/destination-moon ) dedicated to the Apollo 11 mission is scheduled to open in 2022.

Until then, Armstrong’s suit will be seen alongside another aviation first – the 1903 Wright Flyer ( https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/1903-wright-flyer?object=nasm_A19610048000 ) , which brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright used to ring in the aviation era.

A California couple who for years starved a dozen of their children and kept some shackled to beds were sentenced Friday to life in prison, ending a shocking case that revealed a house of horrors hidden behind a veneer of suburban normalcy.

The conditions inside David and Louise Turpin’s ( https://globalnews.ca/tag/turpin-family/ ) home in suburban Los Angeles came to light only after one of their daughters fled and pleaded for help to a 911 operator. The parents pleaded guilty in February to neglect and abuse.

[readmore label=”READ MORE: ” link=”https://globalnews.ca/news/4988805/california-chilld-abuse-guilty/” /]

The sentencing was preceded by the first public statements from some of the children, who alternately spoke of love for their parents and of what they had suffered, as the couple wiped away tears. None of the children was publicly identified.

One of the adult children walked into court already in tears, holding hands with a prosecutor.

“Life may have been bad, but it made me strong. I fought to become the person that I am. I saw my dad change my mom. They almost changed me, but I realized what was happening. … I’m a fighter. I’m strong and I’m shooting through life like a rocket,” a daughter said.

The Turpins will be eligible for parole after 25 years.

“I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to hurt my children. I love my children so much,” Louise Turpin said.

One of the children asked for a lighter sentence for the parents because “they believed everything they did was to protect us.”

[readmore label=”READ MORE: ” link=”https://globalnews.ca/news/4092394/turpin-family-captivity-children-freedom/” /]

The home in a middle-class section of Perris, a small city about 60 miles (96 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles, appeared to be neatly kept, and neighbors rarely saw the kids outside, but nothing triggered suspicion.

But when deputies arrived, they were shocked to find a 22-year-old son chained to a bed and two girls who had just been set free from shackles. Most of the 13 children — who ranged in age from 2 to 29 — were severely underweight and had not bathed for months. The house was covered in filth and filled with the stench of human waste.

The children said they were beaten, caged and shackled if they did not obey their parents.

David Turpin, 57, had been an engineer for Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. Louise Turpin, 50, was listed as a housewife in a 2011 bankruptcy filing.

The teenage daughter escaped by jumping from a window. After a lifetime living in isolation, the 17-year-old did not know her address, the month of the year or what the word “medication” meant.

[tp_video id=4989216]

But she knew enough to punch 911 into a barely workable cellphone and began describing years of horrific abuse to a police dispatcher.

Deputies testified that the children said they were allowed to shower only once a year. They were mainly kept in their rooms except for meals, which had been reduced from three to one per day, a combination of lunch and dinner. The 17-year-old complained that she could no longer stomach peanut butter sandwiches — they made her gag.

[readmore label=”READ MORE: ” link=”https://globalnews.ca/news/3981931/turpin-family-children-captive-california-home-video/” /]

The children were not allowed to play like normal children. Other than an occasional family trip to Las Vegas or Disneyland, they rarely left home. They slept during the day and were active a few hours at night.

Although the couple filed paperwork with the state to homeschool their children, learning was limited. The oldest daughter only completed third grade.

“We don’t really do school. I haven’t finished first grade,” the 17-year-old said, according to Deputy Manuel Campos.

Investigators found that the couple’s toddler had not been abused, but all of the children were hospitalized.

[vemba-video id=”van/batchfeed/2019/04/03/wcbs_326c37d0-5631-11e9-8855-6db23bd05516″]

As one of the holiest Jewish celebrations ( https://www.cnn.com/2013/09/12/world/passover-fast-facts/index.html ) of the year arrives, families in the Hasidic section of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, face a dilemma.

“Say you have six kids that want to come to the Seder, with all the grandchildren,” said Eli Banash, 32, a member of the Orthodox community who works in Williamsburg.

“Grandmother wants everybody to come. One family didn’t vaccinate the kids. Five did. The five families are saying, ‘We’re not coming unless they don’t come!’ With Passover, it’s going to intensify.”

A persistent measles outbreak has hit this ultra-Orthodox enclave ( https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/09/health/measles-new-york-emergency-bn/index.html ) and led city officials to declare a public health emergency.

Passover, which begins at sundown Friday and ends April 27, marks the Exodus story from the Old Testament and is celebrated with large gatherings and ceremonial meals. But community leaders and health officials fear the holiday may further fuel the spread of the highly contagious disease.

Already, 359 cases of measles ( https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/measles.page ) have been confirmed in Brooklyn and Queens since October, mostly in Williamsburg.

“The concern is that with Passover and increased travel, we’re going to be putting more people at risk,” said New York City’s health commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot.

Across the country, measles cases have jumped to the second-highest level in a quarter century, with 555 cases confirmed in 20 states, ( http://www.cnn.com/2019/04/15/health/measles-2019-us-global-cdc-who-bn/index.html ) according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Because of measles’ long incubation period, we know this outbreak will get worse before it gets better,” Barbot said in a statement this week.
A pamphlet directed at Orthodox communities helped fuel the fear of vaccines
In Hasidic Williamsburg, bearded men walk hurriedly in long frock coats crowned by black hats. Women in ankle-length skirts push strollers on crowded sidewalks and Hasidic boys with spiraling side curls dart through the streets in bunches.

In an insular community where some don’t take kindly to intrusion, residents blame the outbreak largely on a hardline minority opposed to vaccinations, or anti-vaxers. The close-knit neighborhood — where residents explain the insularity as a way of preserving the community’s identity — has seen heightened tension in some families, especially as Passover preparations got underway.

Blima Marcus, a nurse and past president of the Orthodox Jewish Nurses Association, has been holding small workshops with the nurses in Brooklyn and New Jersey to educate members of the ultra-Orthodox community who are fearful of vaccines.

The fears were fueled in part by a slick 40-page booklet being distributed in Orthodox enclaves about the dangers of vaccines. The booklet is directly aimed at the Orthodox community, ( https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/29/health/measles-ny-outbreak-fear-misinformation/index.html ) partly written in Hebrew and filled with snippets from the Torah, or Old Testament. Yet Marcus and Orthodox Jewish leaders say there is nothing in Jewish law that prohibits vaccinations.

The booklet was created by a group called PEACH, or Parents Educating and Advocating for Children’s Health. ( https://issuu.com/peachmoms/docs/the_vaccine_safety_handbook_a4 ) Attempts to reach the organization for comment have been unsuccessful.

“People figured it’s a fringe magazine and didn’t pay a lot of attention to it, but I think what we’re realizing now is that it had a much larger impact than anyone ever realized,” Marcus said.
‘Every night, people are arguing’
Burach Kahan, 25, said he had his youngest child, 9 months old, vaccinated this week. His two other children are vaccinated. He said he started a separate family text group where most of his 13 siblings can only talk about vaccines and the measles outbreak.

“One of my sisters is very scared,” he said. “Most of her friends are anti-vaccine and she forwards all their messages. She brought (up vaccines) on the regular group and everyone was busy all day and night fighting.”

“People will argue throughout the holiday,” said Shaya Hershko, 22, who had his 14-month-old daughter vaccinated against the measles before a family Passover trip to Canada. “Every night, people are arguing. The people you argue with about everything — your arguing partners.”

Hershko, who lives in Williamsburg, frequently argues with his sister-in-law in upstate Orange County, New York. He says she is an adherent of alternative medicine and refuses to vaccinate her children.

Orange County had seen 20 confirmed measles cases, while neighboring Rockland County — with 190 cases ( https://www.health.ny.gov/publications/2170/ ) — tried to bar unvaccinated children from public places until a judge prohibited officials from enforcing that rule. ( https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/05/health/rockland-new-york-measles-ban-ruling/index.html )

“I have a lot of friends that didn’t want to give the shots but I figured that a doctor knows better than my friends know,” said Hershko’s wife, Friny, 20. “The people that don’t give the shots are actually a little bit looked down because the schools and everybody are making like a big deal.”

New York health officials announced last week that in the neighborhoods affected by the outbreak, anyone who has not been vaccinated against measles or cannot show evidence of immunity could face a $1,000 fine.
Nurses are fighting misinformation
On Monday, the health department said a Williamsburg child-care program was closed “for repeatedly failing to provide access to medical and attendance records.” Schools and child care programs are required to maintain records on-site, and unvaccinated students and staff are prohibited from attending.

The child care program has reopened, but health officials said Thursday that four other city schools and pre-schools will close imminently for failing to comply with the department orders.

Marcus and a group of other nurses have researched and refuted each piece of misinformation in the PEACH booklet, and plan to soon publish a rebuttal to be distributed in Orthodox communities.

The nurses have also been meeting with mothers in Williamsburg and other Orthodox communities, Marcus said.

“I feel really bad for these women whose internal instincts of motherhood and protecting their children have been exploited by this movement and now are feeling that heat and feeling that backlash and are being kind of attacked for their medical choices,” she said.

“I talk to these women and I say you’re trying to use Jewish law to defend not vaccinating. Instead, you’re deliberately trying to harm them. It’s almost kind of like breaking your child’s bone in the hope that when it grows back it will be stronger,” she said.

“We listen to them and take them seriously on an issue where they’re usually mocked,” Marcus said.

A middle aged man, Mr. Onyeachonam Chinwuba has bathed his wife Mrs. Añurika Chinwuba with a substance suspected to be acid for demanding for divorce.

Chinwuba who hails from Mmiata-Anam, in Anambra West Local Government of Anambra State was said to have done the damage shortly after the couple left the office of the State Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, where their marital differences were being resolved.

Mrs. Chinwuba was said to have accused her husband of living a questionable life and sought for divorce, and both had visited the Ministry on Tuesday and early Wednesday, according to the Commissioner who also sat with them in discussion.

According to eye witnesses, including the mother of the victim, it was after the couple and those with them left the Ministry but still within the environs that the husband brought out a bottle containing the harmful substance, which he hid in his clothes, and poured the content on the wife.

The woman was said to have fallen and began to scream as the substance caused serious burns on her face down her body.

The eyewitnesses said some staff of the Ministry, upon hearing the screaming, rushed to the scene and assisted the victim to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

The doctor handling her case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance had caused severe damage to the woman’s skin, adding that the patient was receiving treatments and would be taken to the plastic surgery unit for further medical attention.

Confirming the victims admission in the hospital, the Public Relations Officer of COOUTH, Miss Henrietta Agbai said that the state government was aware of the her case and advised couples to settle their family problems amicable than taking laws into their hands.

Reports have it that some of the 13 Nigerian mafia gang members arrested in Italy earlier this month, have been deported. It was gathered that out of the 13 suspects, 11 were deported following an investigation by the Italian anti-mafia investigators, (DDA).

https://joyceeyenakwaibomcom.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/img_1946-1.jpg?w=676
The gang said to comprise of members of Eiye confraternity ( https://www.nationalhelm.co/2019/04/eiye-gang-members-arrested-by-police-in-italy.html ) – is accused of managing a human trafficking and prostitution ring. Police said aspiring members had to take part in brutal “initiation rites” to become part of the gang.

Italian police coordinated by DDA anti-mafia investigators in Palermo on April 4th, arrested 13 suspects as part of the so-called ”No Fly Zone” operation against an alleged Nigerian mafia gang dubbed ”Eiye” that operated across Italy.

According to investigative sources, two co-operating witnesses in Palermo played a key part in the probe.

The investigation started after a young Nigerian woman, a human trafficking victim herself, who had been forced into prostitution, went to the police. Investigators explained that her denunciation of those who exploited her, who were part of the EIYE organization, helped them begin the investigation.

https://joyceeyenakwaibomcom.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/img_1947-1.jpg?w=676

First police raided the brothel where the woman worked in the central but relatively poor district of Ballarò in downtown Palermo. This discovery prompted a nation-wide investigation and the identification of the gang’s leaders. The gang, which was based in Palermo’s Ballarò’s district but operated nationwide, trafficked in drugs and prostitution, police said.

Aspiring members of the organization had to go through initiation rites, one of which was recorded by a hidden camera placed by investigators in Palermo. The gang also operated in Naples, Turin, Cagliari, Catania, Caltanissetta and in the area of Treviso. In the initiation rite recorded by police, the aspiring member was forced to strip naked and lie on the floor while others punched and kicked him, sliced him with a razor and forced him to drink a mix of his tears, alcohol and tapioca.

https://videos.files.wordpress.com/ad40c2pT/&h=120

Only a few members were allowed to take part in the rite, which are governed by rigid protocols, investigators explained. The rite was meant to test the aspiring member’s intention and loyalty towards the gang, which has strict rules and punishes transgressors harshly. Affiliated members paid money to the clan, which was also used to pay for their legal expenses, the sources said.

Looking for some morning betting opportunities this Saturday? The UFC Fight Night card headlined by a heavyweight fight between Alistair Overeem and Aleksei Oleinik starts at 10 a.m. Eastern from the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It’s the UFC’s first-ever visit to Saint Petersburg and second all-time to Russia following Mark Hunt vs. Oleinik in September 2018.

For those of us in North America, this is a rather weak card because it’s obviously heavy on Europeans and Russians. It originally was to be headlined by Overeem, a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, against ex-Bellator heavyweight champ Alexander Volkov, but Volkov had to pull out due to injury and was replaced by Oleinik. He was scheduled to fight Walt Harris next month, but that obviously has been scrapped.

Overeem (44-17), a 38-year-old from the Netherlands, is a -240 favorite on the UFC odds ( https://www.oddsshark.com/ufc/odds?utm_source=heavy.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial ) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com ( https://www.oddsshark.com/?utm_source=heavy.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial ) with the 41-year-old Russian Oleinik (also spelled Alexey Oleynik) at +190. Both guys are clearly past their prime.

There’s no question that Overeem is a heavyweight legend as he has beaten some of the biggest names in the division, including wins years ago over the likes of Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar. Overeem is currently ranked No. 7 in the division – Daniel Cormier is the champion. “The Demolition Man” ended a two-fight losing streak in November 2018 by beating Sergei Pavlovich by first-round TKO (punches). Exactly half of Overeem’s 44 wins have been by knockout or TKO.

Oleinik (57-11-1), ranked ninth in the division, hasn’t fought nearly the same level of competition because he has been in the UFC only since 2014, with his two losses in the organization to Daniel Omeilanczuk and Curtis Blaydes. “The Boa Constrictor” has won back-to-back fights since that Blaydes loss, last beating Hunt by first-round submission (rear-naked choke) in September 2018.

At lightweight, Islam Makhachev (16-1) is a -370 favorite at sports betting sites ( https://www.oddsshark.com/sportsbook-review?utm_source=heavy.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial ) over fellow Russian Arman Tsarukyan (13-1), who is +280. Neither is ranked in the division but perhaps Saturday’s winner would then be. Makhachev is 5-1 since joining the UFC and comes off a first-round submission win (armbar) over Kajan Johnson last July. It’s the UFC debut of Tsarukyan, who has beaten former UFC fighters in Junior Assuncao, Takenori Sato and Felipe Oliviera. Both these fighters are good wrestlers, but Makhachev has actually never been taken down in his career.

One worker Ahsen Demirci, 28, drops to her knees as the crazed gunman pulls out a gun and storms towards the till.

The man was previously spotted sitting down with a worker before beginning his rampage.

Demirci was blasted in the head while her colleague Tugce Nur Yilmaz, 36, was shot in the stomach as she hid in the back office according to Turkish media.

P.T was arrested a short time later and cops seized the gun used in the attack.

The two victims were rushed to hospital where their condition has been described as serious.

He told cops afterwards: “I did it due to instant rage.”

Local media report P.T. had been having an argument with Demirci about his phone tariff being too high when he pulled the gun out.

Snakes have been found in Liberian President George Weah’s office, forcing him to work from his private residence,. Press secretary Smith Toby told the BBC that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, site of the official office.

https://joyceeyenakwaibomcom.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/img_1952.jpg?w=676
All staff have been told to stay away until 22 April. “It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building,” Mr Toby said. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation,” he said.

A FrontPage Africa newspaper video shows workers trying to attack the snakes when they appeared near the building’s reception. “The snakes were never killed,” Mr Toby said. “There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back.”

Police and presidential security were seen guarding Mr Weah’s residence in the capital Monrovia. A fleet of vehicles including escorts jeeps were parked outside. Mr Toby said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started to fumigate on Friday. “That building’s been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high,” he said.

The president is definitely returning to his official office on Monday after the fumigation whether or not the snakes are found and killed, Mr Toby said.

Villagers have been left short of words after a married man impregnated two of his married neighbours in Mangwere community in Zimbabwe.

https://joyceeyenakwaibomcom.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/img_1958.jpg?w=676
B-Metro reports that the man identified as Forget Ndoro (30), was dragged to Chief Nembudziya’s traditional court for impregnating Siphiwe Ndawana (26) and Gertrude Sibanda (29) by their very angry husbands.

Ndoro did not deny the allegations and admitted responsibility for the pregnancies.

The chief confirmed the development to B-Metro saying,

I presided over a matter of a married man who had relationships with two married women resulting in two pregnancies. I don’t take such matters lightly and l ordered him to pay 10 cows for disrespecting other men in such a degrading manner.

When l asked him about the matter he did not deny it. He said his illicit affairs with the two ladies started as a joke before turning into serious affairs.

I told him that he must take full responsibility for his two unborn children. He must also pay all expenses required when the women give birth.

The chief also said that he was worried about the increase in the number of extramarital affairs in his area.

https://tedconfblog.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/ted2019_20190418_2rl2688_3000.jpg?w=676 Over the week of TED, artist Milt Klingensmith co-created a mural featuring the images of TEDsters interacting in a sports-inflected workplace inspired by Steelcase. Klingensmith and co-artist Jody Williams worked at TED2019: Bigger Than Us, April 15–19, 2019, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Photo: Ryan Lash / TED

Every day at every workplace around the world, employees engage in a ballet. Each of us has a role to play, and we alternate between solo moments and collaborative interludes, between scripted choreography and improv. While the members and the steps may change over time, as long as the business continues, the ballet goes on.

Well, if work is a dance, then you might think of Steelcase — a US company that creates furniture for offices, hospitals and classrooms — as a production designer. To the people at Steelcase, the workplace is not a static setting but one that’s as dynamic as the employees themselves. They’re always asking: “What are the patterns, rhythms and trends emerging in the business world?” and “How can we take this information and use it to help people perform at their best?”

For its 2019 Active Collaboration Study, the company spent more than two years surveying and observing ( https://www.steelcase.com/teams/ ) over 3,000 office workers in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, UK and US. Respondents told them they spent half their time in group interactions but felt constrained: 72 percent said they want to move when collaborating but only 53 percent can; 54 percent want to rearrange their furniture, yet just 38 percent can.

For TED2019 in Vancouver, Steelcase has created an exhibit that captures an idealized solution to these difficulties and goes one delightful step further: it places attendees in this imaginary world. However, unlike the Vulcan Holodome (also at the conference) ( https://blog.ted.com/vulcan-holodome-at-ted2019-an-immersive-360-degree-world-without-a-headset/ ) which puts people into Monet paintings thanks to advanced 4K projectors, this is a strictly analog affair. Starting with the opening of the conference on Monday, Michigan artists Jody Williams ( https://www.jodywilliams.com/ ) and Milt Klingensmith ( http://www.miltklingensmith.com/ ) have been painting a mural to which they’re adding willing TEDsters.

The painting is a colorful fusion of streamlined Scandinavian design, the humanity-filled feel of folk art, and athletic tropes — it’s as if Grandma Moses and Eero Saarinen got married and became rabid sports fans. Steelcase has been a TED partner for 25 years, and brand events manager Cindy McDonagh says, “We always like to interact with attendees in very personal ways. Given that everyone is at some point involved in teaming or collaboration, we decided to engage them in the story visually and make it very personal to them.”

Interestingly, while collaboration was chosen by Steelcase to be the theme of the mural, it’s taken on a life of its own. For starters, the attendees and artists must constantly interact. TEDsters sit or stand for a minute or so — all that Klingensmith needs to sketch them — and later they return to look for themselves in the piece. While Klingensmith has never done this kind of live work before, he used to regularly walk to a cafe near his home and do on-the-spot drawings of passersby. “I just love drawing human forms,” he says. “This has been a dream job.”

People happily chat as they’re being sketched, and a few have had specific requests. One person wanted to be depicted standing on a table; another asked that his painted self look heavier (!). The artists have noticed the mural is bringing people together off the canvas, since attendees like to come in groups.

Then there’s the synergy between the artists. While Klingensmith is focused on capturing the people, Williams is filling in the setting. The two are actually old friends from college, but they hadn’t spoken for a decade until Williams was hired for the project and thought that Klingensmith would be the ideal teammate. Williams says, “Milt and I have been getting together for the last few Saturdays to discuss questions like, How are we going to do this? What colors of paint should we use?”

The mural is infused with whimsy — for example, this workplace has bleachers and a soccer field, a nod to the theme. Says Steelcase senior communication specialist Audra Hartges, “Work today is more like a soccer game where it’s really dynamic, there are lots of moving parts, and there’s lots of interactivity between people.” Yet it has realistic elements, with plenty of individual desks and coworking spaces. Look closely, and you’ll see a scattering of Steelcase pieces, such as the Oculus chair and the Umami bench, throughout. (In response to the opinions captured in its study, Steelcase has just launched some real-life products including Flex, a line ( https://www.steelcase.com/360-flex/ ) of moveable desks, tables, whiteboards, carts, space dividers and accessories, and a Roam stand ( https://www.steelcase.com/360-roam/ ) for Microsoft’s Surface Hub2S.)

While the mural will be taken down and rolled up when TED2019 concludes, it may go on to have a second life. There’s the possibility of it being displayed at Steelcase HQ in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where it can serve as a sweet, graphic reminder of this moment of teamwork and the inspiring backdrop of collaborations to come.

The Osun Government on Friday said it had discovered 769 workers in the state’s civil service who were working with fake and forged school certificates.

Mr Adelani Baderinwa, who is supervising the Information and Strategy Ministry, said in a statement that the discovery was made after five years of screening carried out by a consultancy firm employed by the state government.

“A consultancy firm, The Captain Consultants, engaged five years ago by the state government to verify the results and other necessary documents of the workers in the state has completed its assignment and submitted its report.

“The screening of the workers’ credentials came on the heels of controversies and reported forgery of results with which some of the workers allegedly used to secure job in the Osun civil service.

“At the commencement of the screening exercise in 2015, all the civil servants in the state were asked to submit their credentials in their personal files from which the Captain Consultants firm got access to their results and begun the verification exercise.

“Each and every result submitted by each of the workers was verified in their various secondary schools, post secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

“Some of the workers who were suspected to have forged/fake results were summoned by the firm and asked to present original results or go to their various schools for either attestation or re-confirmation.

“The firm, on its own, approached the schools for ‘confirmation of results’ of the affected workers for which they were obliged.

“The verification process uncovered serious certificate infraction on the part of some of the workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government.

“In some cases, as discovered in the verification process, some of the affected workers used another person’s result, while some forged their secondary and post secondary schools results to secure job in the civil service.

“In the case of some people employed as drivers in the service, it was discovered that they forged the O’Level results they submitted for their appointment.

“However, the firm in its report recommended that some of the civil servants caught in the certificate infraction be pardoned, while some should not be pardoned.

“Recommended for pardon are 102 drivers and 30 other workers who are to be pardoned on compassionate ground. A total of 586 workers are not pardoned, while the case of some 51 workers are still pending.

“While the exercise was on, some of the workers who were cleared and pardoned were receiving their salary while those that are yet to be pardoned have their salary suspended.

“A complete list of all the workers involved in the certificate infraction has been pasted at the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Civil Service Commission and Local Government Service Commission.

“Affected workers should check their names in the aforementioned places,” he said (NAN)

Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

president Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law with a charge to workers to be more committed and supportive to his administration’s effort to fix the economy and build the poor infrastructure he met on ground.

“I expect them (workers) to be more committed to their work at whichever level. I will like the cooperation of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to look at the economic situation of the country, the population, the poor infrastructure that we are trying to fix in terms of roads, rail and power. So, I wish Nigerian workers the best of luck.”

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, who confirmed the signing to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the implementation takes immediate effect and it is for all workers across the federation with exception of organisations with less than 25 staff.

Enang who was all smiles and dancing while briefing newsmen said: “You can see me smiling on behalf of Nigerian workers. President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the Minimum Wage Repeal and Enactment Act 2019.

“This makes it compulsory for all employers of labour in Nigeria to pay to their workers the sum of N30,000. And this excludes persons who are employing less than 25 workers, persons who work in a ship which sails out of jurisdiction and other persons who are in other kinds of regulated employment which are accepted by the Act.

“It also gives the workers the rights, if you are compelled by any circumstance to accept salary that is less than N30,000, to sue your employer to recover the balance and it authorises the minister of labour and any person nominated by the minister of labour or any person designated by the minister of labour in any ministry, department or agency to, on your behalf, take action in your name against such employer to recover the balance of your wages.”

The new law also ensures and mandates National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission and the Minister or Labour, to be the chief and principal enforcers of the provisions of this law.

Similarly, the law applies to all agencies, persons and bodies throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

On when the Act comes into effect, Enang said, “the effective date is 18th of April, 2019, as Mr. President has assented to it. It has been assented to today and it takes effect today, except such other provisions as are contained in the Act. But the enforcement and the right to start the implementation of the provisions commences today (Thursday), including such steps that are to be taken gradually under the provisions of the Act.”

On what is expected of workers with the signing of the new law, the presidential aide said: “I want Nigerian workers to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari, to support this administration, support his policies and of course we will, as a government, go out and match together along with Nigerian workers on workers day.”

Asked if Buhari would join the workers on May 1st to celebrate workers day, Enang answered in the affirmative.

“Mr. President will celebrate with workers and the federal government will celebrate. This is Mr. President showing workers the love he has for them and we are matching as we will match with the Nigerian workers.”

Asked if the new minimum wage covers the National Youth Service Corps, he said, “It covers all persons covered by the Act.”

Senate had on March 19 passed the bill, approving N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

The House of Representatives, had earlier passed the bill before the National Assembly shut down its operations to enable lawmakers participate in the 2019 general elections.

Workers in the Federal Capital Territory had on Tuesday begged President Buhari to sign the minimum wage bill submitted to him by the National Assembly on March 27, into law before Workers Day on May 1.

Ajumogobia for several years served as a Judge at the Federal High court in Ikoyi Lagos where she would be re-arraigned on Thursday.

“From the beginning, I had three role models, all playing in the No. 5 Central position, Bobby Moore of England, Franz Beckenbauer, from Germany and Nigeria’s Christian Chukwu. But I had a Yugoslav Coach who asked me to pick up Jersey No. 4.

-See Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, in Edwin Eze, Emma Okocha, Rangers International Football club, History of a People Enugu 2017.

Recently, the Nigerian Football Federal toasted the Super Eagles class of ’99 and some of my younger colleagues of the SWAN went further to award that Assembly of super stars the diadem of Nigeria’s greatest eleven of all times. I disagree and am asking Alumona, Ochonogor of the Great Channels, my friend the GM of AIT who was a great sports broadcaster at Radio Nigeria when Ojeagbase, Complete Sports, Dr. Somanri, Obi, Anibueze Editor Vanguard, with Akwa Ibom FC President, Bassey, ruled the waves. Now we go down the lanes and do our research.

As the enduring Captain of Nigerian Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu led the greatest Nigerian football assembly. The 1977 immaculate Olympic squad; which included Segun Odegbami, Muda Lawal, Amiesimaka, golden boy Thompson Usiyen, Okala etc. That Olympic Squad destroyed a German side 10-0, walloped the Canadian national team, the host of the Olympics 4-0, Brazil, the next victim turned tail and refused to present a team to play the Eagles in their last trial matches before the 1977 Olympics. That most conditioned Super Eagles squad was destroyed by the Federal Government ill fated decision to pull out from that Olympics in protest against South Africa’s Apartheid policies.

In comparison to the Keshi ’99 class, the Chukwu/Odegbami Class had the same Yugoslav Coach. As Keshi grew and passed the baton to Uche Okechukwu, Clemens Westerhof came into the limelight. The same Keshi as quoted earlier accepted his place behind his model, Christian Chukwu.

Between the posts, it was the Cameroonian greatest Goalkeeper Thomas Nkono who in the same book Rangers International FC, a History of a People asserted that, “Emmanuel Okala is the greatest African Goalkeeper of all times.” If the class of ’77 is winning in No. 5, in between the posts, I think Segun Odegbami and Justice Adokiye Amiesimaka are better wingers than the ’99 class of Amuneke and Finidi George. Finally, the class ’99 had Rashidi Yekini as its top 9.

Rashidi had bullets and speed. But Nigeria’s greatest striker of all times is Thompson Usiyan. He was the complete footballer and at his prime he scored all our goals with both legs, his head or any part of his body. As I await the debate let me return to the Humanitairan of the year. Femi Otedola.

In my expose of Wednesday, SUN, March 20, 2019, which the great Editor promoted on the Back page, and titled; Rangers’ Kenneth Abana is dying, I had alerted the nation on the health situation of Christian Chukwu and the “Magician” Kenneth Abana. Sir Otedola….. with the Money, reacted with immediacy and offered to pay all the Christian Chukwu’s medical bills. Total costs of 15 million naira is his way of paying his gratitude to this Nigerian football phenomenon, the leader of the inimitable Super Eagle of the class of ’77!

….Where are the Igbo millionaires….?

The kill and go, acidic, and byzantine Nigerian Politics provide a stage for some Igbo billionaires to hype their superlative balconies. We will not deny them their constitutional participation in politics. Since independence scholars of Nigeria’s pre and post independence politics would always extol the supportive roles of the Igbo financiers during the struggle leading to the emancipation of our people from the white colonial rule. In golden lines the books wrote of the kindness and financial donations to the struggle by silent Barons like Okonkwo Kano. The man who built the hospitals, the schools, the markets and the only aero drome in Maiduguri. All the infrastructure now pillaged by the Boko Haram! Jos and Minna Gold Miner, Green Mbadiwe and of course the richest blackman of that generation, Michael Ugo who was shot on the Orders of Muritala Mohammed’s Second Division when that army slaughtered Asaba October 7, 1967.

Since Otedola… with the money came to the rescue of Christian Chukwu, where are the Emeka Offors, Arthur Ezes, the Ubas, Innoson, Cocharis, the Young, Tony Elumelu, Ned Nwoko, Chickason etc. Where is Mr. Flavor, Phyno, the Nollywood superstars, why you are all unconcerned and a Yoruba Prince came from heaven running with the balls and taking Chukwu away from pure water to Champaign land!

Please give us a call now.

We did it for Etim Esim, we can do it for Kenneth “Magic” Abana.

Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

The Federal Government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the production of N14.7 billion single biometric identity cards for Nigerians travelling within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Speaking during the event to sign the MoU with the service provider, Euphoria Press Limited, in Abuja, yesterday Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd), revealed that the project, which will cost N14.7 billion to execute, will have the same colour in all member states, especially detailed information of the holder, including a photograph.

He maintained that there is need for Nigeria to show Africa, and the world, that the nation is serious in providing integration services in West Africa.

The minister said the signing could not have come at the right time, as the ministry recently signed another MoU with Interpol; for security within Nigerian borders, even as he revealed that the ministry is saddled with the responsibility of issuing the ID cards.

He said: “The ECOWAS Biometric ID Card is meant to complement the effort of the present administration in enhancing integration in the sub region.

“It is meant to replace ECOWAS Traveller Certificate.

“Incidentally, we just signed an agreement with Interpol for security partnership within our borders, so the ID card is meant to complement this effort.”

Senate has intervened in cases of alleged extra-judicial killings of some Nigerians by some security operatives across the country.

The Red Chamber’s intervention followed a Point of Order raised by Senator Dino Melaye at yesterday’s plenary.

Presenting the Point of Order, Melaye said it became necessary to speak out for Nigerians; against the backdrop of cases of deaths caused by trigger-happy security operatives.

The lawmaker said it was high time senate intervened to save the lives of Nigerians.

Melaye, who came under Order 42, said killings have almost become the order of the day and should be curtailed before it got out of hand.

“I am bringing this motion before the senate because we are not in a war situation,” he said.

The lawmaker called for passage and signing into law of the Police Reform Bill to help tackle the problem.

Said Melaye: “The Police Reform Bill is now important more than ever. We should look at the bill expeditiously, if possible, pass it on time.”

In his remarks, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, asked Melaye to make full presentation of the motion at today’s plenary.

He also ordered chairmen of the committees on Police, Rules and Business to ensure that the motion is reflected in today’s Order Paper, for presentation and debate.

Bizman allegedly dupes 20, 000 investors of N7b
by Rapheal
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Babagana Abba Dalori, a 35-year-old businessman, who allegedly duped investors in his company of over N7 billion.

Dalori, a 2010 graduate of Electrical Electronics from the University of Maiduguri, is the Managing Director, Galaxy Transportation and Construction Services Limited.

Investigation revealed that he allegedly made a fortune by luring unsuspecting investors with mouth-watering return on investment (RoI) that ranged from 125% to as high as 200% on their seed capitals in the company.

According to the suspect, he started his business in 2012 with just a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) and by 2014, he had been able to convince hundreds of people into pooling resources together with which he procured tricycles he managed on their behalf and made returns to them on equal owners gentleman’s agreement term.

With the success he recorded with the pool tricycle business, he diversified into sand mining, trucking, (dumper truck) and commuter buses.

In 2016, Dalori veered into full transportation business with the registration of Galaxy Transport and Construction Company with his mother as co-director. His investments grew with the huge number of members of the public who were contributing finances to him to be part owners.

He disclosed that in 2017 he invested about N400 million to acquire a quarry licence with which he started stone crushing in Mpape, Abuja. Due to the mouth-watering returns he made to his investors, his company easily spread its operations to 11 states of the North, boasting of investors’ profile of 20, 700.

He, however, bit more than he can chew with his dabbling into oil and gas with his incorporation of Galaxy Global Energy Limited, which put a strain on the returns from the existing array of Galaxy Miners Concepts Limited, Galaxy Global Farms, Galaxy Guest Palace Limited, Galaxy Hospital, Galaxy Computing, Galaxy block making and Galaxy car wash.

Dalori was no longer paying dividends to his investors and would not even take their calls.

Investigation further revealed that though the investing members of public were to be co-owners in all the companies, they were kept in the dark concerning the companies and were by no measure co-owners of the companies with him.

3 arrested for using Sunny Ade’s name to swindle
by Rapheal
Christopher Oji

Three members of a syndicate that allegedly used the name of music icon, Sunday Adegeyi, aka King Sunny Ade or KSA), to swindle unsuspecting victims of several millions of naira are in police net.

The suspects, two men and a young lady, are being interrogated at the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the Lagos State Police Command headed by CSP Vera Amen.

The leader of the gang had opened an Instagram page in the social media with Sunny Ade’s name, advertising that KSA would want to assist interested people to travel on music tours to Europe, the United States of America and Asia.

The gang leader, Oyedekun aka Law, also wrote in the Instagram page that those who were interested in the tour should pay between N50,0000 and N100,000 depending on the area of interest.

A senior police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak to the press, said: “ It was just like magic as people began to pay money into the accounts the syndicate provided. They provided two different accounts. Because KSA is a well known and reliable musician, people started paying and the syndicate was withdrawing the money daily and promising to contact the victims at the appropriate time.

“It was while people were paying that those who were close to KSA notified him of the development. Some of his fans and close associates started thanking him for trying to assist the youths. KSA now raised the alarm that people were using his name to swindle innocent citizens and quickly reported the matter to the police at SIB and our operatives tracked the suspects to Ibadan and Oyo town in Oyo State where they were arrested.

Civil servants will be paid promotion arrears, says AGF
by CybokNews
…Over N37bn saved from MDAs promotion padding
Civil servants in the Country have been assured that their promotion arrears will be paid as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Civil servants have been clamouring for the payment of their promotion arrears some of which has lingered on for years.

The assurance was given by the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Ahmed Idris when he played host to the National Executive of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria in his office in Abuja.

Ahmed Idris revealed that “following Mr. President’s directive that N10 billion be set aside monthly, commencing from May 2017 to offset backlog of Promotion Arrears, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has inaugurated an in-house committee to verify MDAs’ claims and submissions.”

According to a statement issued by the OAGF and signed by Oise D. Johnson, Head of Press and Publicity OAGF, the AGF noted “the Committee has saved over N37 billion from misapplications, paddings, mistakes, and non-compliance by MDAs to the agreed template” with regards to promotion matters

Also, “the committee has paid out the sum of N42 billion, out of the N55 billion released leaving an outstanding of N13 billion in cash while a total of N35 billion is yet to be released to the office,” he said.

Furthermore, the AGF promised that he will bring the concerns of the Association to the notice of the Minister of Finance and will also dialogue with the Director-General Budget Office, to ensure that Government continues to keep its part of the agreement reached with Association in order to ensure industrial harmony.

I was 15 when my parents told me what my 16th Birthday Present was going to be:

A trip to Paris.
Paris…
My father, who had fought in Europe during WWII, would never talk about his war experiences, except for his time in France. He loved everything about the country, and wanted me to have the opportunity to go.
It would be my first time outside of the country. First time to get a passport. First time to be on my own (I was going with a school group). I was so excited.
America is a young country. When compared to the rest of the world, our hundred, two hundred year old relics are nothing compared to other countries.
You got that immediately when you arrived in Paris.

Somehow, it mixes the old and the new. The modern with the ancient. But, above all else, the history is respected.
As I watched the fire engulfing Notre Dame, I sat there, with the rest of the world, my heart breaking with every news report. Notre Dame wasn’t just a church. It was history.

Living, breathing history. It’s beauty was inescapable, whether coming upon it by foot, or by boatride down the Seine.
Walking in it, was to be awed. It was a church, but, it was so much more. It was massive. It was impressive. It was awe inspiring, and humbling. You could spend a whole day inside, just being respectful and taking in all of the history that it had offer. The architecture made your mouth fall open. The beauty of the stained glass….the place was made for pictures. The clicks were what you heard inside of the church. It was always full of tourists, yet, it wasn’t noisy.
The thing about Notre Dame wasn’t just that you were there…but, you knew that you would return, and bring others with you.
I had already been planning Peanut’s first time to Paris…and, of course, Notre Dame would be on the list. There are things that sustain us. That we believe will always be there. The continuity is something that calms the nerves. Soothes the soul.
I am not Catholic, but, felt completely welcome there…as I am sure that many others of different faiths have been as well. It was a house of worship, but, it was a cultural symbol of Paris. Of history that touched on religion, but not only religion.

Construction of the cathedral officially started in 1163, and wasn’t finished for almost 200 years. As I recall, it was a site of worship long before that — every time repairs have been done in the lower levels, prehistoric artifacts are unearthed. It’s a terrible loss, to France and the world, but the cathedral will be rebuilt again.

Hey, @VP ,

Notre Dame is much more than a “House of God” to the people of Paris. It’s the heart of their city and a cornerstone of their collective history. Reducing it to a symbol of faith is insulting.

Another poster:

I think for many folks Notre Dame is also a symbol, in addition to being a building and a house of worship. One, for its place in French History and secondly as a living museum of classical Western Civilization (if there is such a thing) for the artistry of the building itself and those items that were stored (and now supposedly saved) within.

The founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministry Prophet Kofi Oduro in a hilarious way demonstrated to his congregation how married women should dress to maintain their marriages.

The man of God wore panties to illustrate to especially married women in his church that they must look attractive always to keep their partners.

“Most married women lose themselves when they get married. To every married woman here, if you want to maintain your marriage you have to raise your game.

The fact that you are married doesn’t mean you don’t have to be sexy or romantic. The side chicks are wearing sexy panties to snatch your husbands, you have to stop these ‘pioto’”, he advised humorously.

Prophet Oduro also advised single ladies to fear God and financially independent before they get married to avoid being liabilities to their partners.

The outspoken man of God is a dynamic and prolific preacher who teaches the word of God with power, clarity and deep insights.

Banditry: Gov. Yari urges army, other security agencies to sustain operations in Zamfara
by Ajiri Daniels
Gov. Abdula’ziz Yari of Zamfara has called on the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to sustain their ongoing operations against bandits operating in the state.

Yari’s call is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s acting Director-General, Press Affairs, Malam Bashir Kabir.

Kabir said that Yari made the call at a meeting with the Force Commander of the Operation Sharan Daji, Maj.-Gen. Hakeem Otiki at the Government House Gusau on Saturday.

Kabir also said that the governor congratulated the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state for the good work they were doing in trying to check the activities of the bandits.

According to him, reports from the areas where the bandits carried out their deadly acts indicate that efforts to flush out the criminals are yielding fruitful results.

“I am, therefore, appealing for more efforts and sustainability from the security agencies,” he said.

Yari said that the incessant killing of innocent people in the state by the bandits had also resulted in the destruction of property.

“If we recall in 2015, Zamfara was affected seriously by cattle rustling and reprisal attacks by the bandits on our communities and today kidnapping is the order of the day across the state,” he said.

He assured the security agencies that the Zamfara government would do its B937SCAQESTEQQ-3672583 possible to assist them in their campaign against banditry and other crimes in the state.

Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Otiki who briefed the governor on `Operation Sharan Daji’ being carried out by the Nigerian army, said that the military was carrying out operations at various locations across the state.

He expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation given to the Nigerian Army by the state government and entire people of the state.

According to Kabir, the governor later held a closed-door meeting with the security chiefs in the state, traditional rulers, and local government chairmen. (NAN)
